Advanced Craftsmanship was founded in 2016 in Maribor, when we decided that things in the world of programming couldn't be improvised so much. Our team was devoted to a simple idea: if you want to be a good programmer, you must learn with someone who is really good. Not with automated video courses. Not by clicking through someone else's presentation. With a real mentor who knows how things are actually done. In the last eight years, we have taught more than 1,200 people to write code that's worth something. Our course is not for everyone. It's for those who care about learning things properly.
Work in technology moves fast. Too fast for old learning methods. That's why we're different. Our intensive program is structured so that you actually do something in your hands, not just in your head. Four weeks of intensive work. Practical projects that you can show to potential employers. Mentors who force you to think deeper. This is not comfortable. But it's the only thing that works.

We don't want to be the biggest, we want to be the best. Every student who comes to us is an individual with different goals and different starting points. We see a world where quality programming education is not a privilege of those who have money or connections. We want to be the reference in Slovenia for what it means to be serious, intensive preparation in technology. In the next five years, we want the name Advanced Craftsmanship to be synonymous with a good, hard, fair course. Big vision? Yes. But without vision, there's just business.
Our Story
Marko Kolar and Petra Novak met while studying computer science at the University of Maribor. In 2015, they worked at a development company and saw the same thing: new programmers coming out of university were unprepared for reality. They decided to change that. With savings and some belief, they rented a small office at Dunajska Street 67 and started the first course in April 2016. There were eight students, a laptop and a whiteboard. Today we have seven mentors, three offices and a waiting list that's three months long. For four years in a row, GlassIndex chose us as one of the best educational companies in the region. This makes us happy, but it doesn't allow us to feel like experts.
First course cohort with eight students. All eight found work in IT within six months. This was confirmation that our method works.
We expanded to a new office. We introduced specialized paths: Full-Stack Development and Data Science. The number of mentors increased from three to five.
The pandemic forced us into an online format. We were surprised that the quality remained at the same level, but the feeling was missing. So we returned to the hybrid model that continues today.
As the first company in Slovenia, we introduced a Mentorship program even after the course ends. Our graduates have access to Mentors for another full year. Mandatory, not optional.

The principles that guide everything we do
Honesty
We don't hide the truth. If you're not suitable for development, we'll tell you. If the course is too hard for you, we'll talk about it. It's better that you see it sooner rather than later. Our mentors don't just tell you what's wrong, but also how to fix it. This is the work we do every day, and we don't have time for tricks.
Quality over quantity
Although we could accept more students than we do, we don't. Every student gets individual attention. Every project is reviewed three times. Every mentor works with a group that's small enough that he really knows everyone. This reduces our revenue, but increases our impact. This is our compromise and we don't regret it.
Practicality
Theories are nice, but practice is what counts. Eighty percent of the course is coding. Real problems. Real debugging. Real feedback. When you leave Advanced Craftsmanship, your hands know how things are done, not just your brain.
Lifelong learning
Technology changes every day. Our mentors still work on projects. They still learn. Learning is not something that ends with the course. This is a philosophy that we communicate to every student. If you think you're done learning, you're in the wrong industry.
Our Approach
Our approach is simple, but difficult to implement. The first two weeks are fundamentals: what the web really is, how browsers work, how data moves. The third week are the first more complex projects. The fourth week is a real project that you'll have to present. All projects are from real scenarios, not from a textbook. All the time mentors provide feedback: this is slow, this is unreadable, you should do this differently. It hurts, but that's what's needed. In the end, you'll have a portfolio that's worth more than just text on paper.
